چکیده

Rhythmic surface Electromyographic (sEMG) bursts for which their returns occur at irregular times are analyzed and compared among healthy and injured central nervous systems. The rhythmic electrophysiological activity in the present study has been defined as “Bursting Rate Variability” (BRV) due to the inherent aperiodicity of successive sEMG bursts, which are concomitant with “doublet” waveforms in the D8 subband of the Daubechies 3 wavelet decomposition of the raw signal. A key element in the analysis is the precise timelocalization of D8 doublets that requires a statistical waveform matching between the D8 doublet and the burst in the raw sEMG signal. This study has been conducted over a period of 10 years, in which 7 healthy and 2 unhealthy individuals volunteered and presented a total of ∼8,000 doublets: it was observed that doublets were more prevalent in healthy than unhealthy subjects, and that the probability distribution of return times was best fitted with Normal Mixtures in healthy subjects, compared to the Weibull distribution as the best fit in unhealthy ones based on the corrected Akaike Information Criterion (AICc) for model selection. Finally, the rate in the occurrence of doublets appears to be within 60-88 bursts per minute, suggesting a possible connection between BRV and the heart rate dynamics.

BK Channels Regulate Spontaneous Action Potential Rhythmicity in the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus

BACKGROUND Circadian ( approximately 24 hr) rhythms are generated by the central pacemaker localized to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus. Although the basis for intrinsic rhythmicity is generally understood to rely on transcription factors encoded by "clock genes", less is known about the daily regulation of SCN neuronal activity patterns that communicate a circadian time s...

On the Relationship between Central Bank’s Independence and Inflation Rate in Iran

The purpose of present paper was to examine the relationship between central bank independence and inflation rate in Iran over 1960-2008. First, central bank independence has been accomplished through three indices including legal and real CBI indices and turnover rate of central bank governor index. Then, Augmented Dickey-Fuller test for model stationary of variables has been done by applying ...

Heart rate dynamics and cardiorespiratory coordination in diabetic and breast cancer patients.

Objective of this study was to evaluate cardiac autonomic function in female breast cancer patients on the basis of linear and non-linear heart rate variability (HRV) as well as on musical heart rate rhythmicity. The latter method has been recently developed and enables particularly the quantification of cardiorespiratory coordination solely on the basis of ECG recordings. To provide a broad ba...

Examination of rhythmicity of extracellularly recorded neurons in the entorhinal cortex.

A number of studies have examined the theta-rhythmic modulation of neuronal firing in the hippocampal circuit. For extracellular recordings, this is often done by examining spectral properties of the spike-time autocorrelogram, most significantly, for validating the presence or absence of theta modulation across species. These techniques can show significant rhythmicity for high firing rate, hi...

A unified description of cerebellar inter-spike interval distributions and variabilities using summation of Gaussians.

Neuronal inter-spike intervals (ISIs) have previously been described as Poisson, Gamma, inverse Gaussian or other unimodal distributions. We analyzed ISIs of rhythmic and arrhythmic neuronal spike trains in cerebellum recorded from freely behaving rats, and found that their distributions can be described as the summation or integration of multiple Gaussian distributions. The ISIs of rhythmic ce...
